The Turntable RPM Accuracy Test mobile app is the premier tool for assessing the RPM accuracy of turntables. It offers comprehensive functionality without any ads or in-app purchases.

Experience real-time graphics like never before, allowing you to observe the RPM speed variations and wow/flutter of your turntable. With its continuous display, making adjustments becomes effortless if your turntable allows for it.

This app enables you to test the RPM speed and wow/flutter accuracy of your turntable, be it at 16, 33 1/3, 45, or 78. Additionally, it introduces the Worldwide RPM Turntable Accuracy Database, a platform that provides insights into other user experiences regarding turntable accuracy and user satisfaction.

Highlighted features include:

  • Endorsement from Rega Research Ltd, renowned makers of top-quality turntables worldwide
  • Positive review by Techmoan on Youtube
  • Utilized in high-end TT reviews in Stereophile magazine

Easily assess wow/flutter accuracy through the maximum deviation percentage from the average RPM of your turntable. Visualize this information graphically using the provided charts.

Save all RPM test sessions to your history log for later review or sharing with others.

The app employs your iPhone's gyroscope to determine the rotation speed of your turntable and automatically identifies the speed setting you are using. Experience accurate reporting of your turntable's performance.

To utilize RPM, simply place your iPhone on your turntable, preferably close to the center but not necessarily directly over the center spindle. As the iPhone rotates, the display remains static from your perspective for effortless reading.

One distinguishing feature of RPM is its scrolling graph that shows the variation in RPM accuracy over time. It effectively illustrates wow/flutter effects caused by factors such as uneven turntable surfaces and belt wear. The app even detects slight drag resulting from the stylus resting in the grooves of the record.

The most recent innovation is the ability to visualize wow and flutter variations around the vinyl center through a heat map. This feature precisely indicates the locations within the turntable rotation where inaccuracies occur.

While there are various methods for testing the average RPM of a turntable, including built-in capabilities in some models, there is no practical alternative for showing wow/flutter variation over time like RPM does.

Customize the history graph parameters to suit your preferences:

  • Set the moving average sample size
  • Determine the accuracy level at which the RPM circle turns green to indicate satisfactory results
  • Specify a duration after which display updates freeze to facilitate reading after turning off the turntable

Keep in mind that the accuracy of RPM's realtime display relies on the gyroscope accuracy of your iPhone. If you suspect any discrepancies, Calibration Mode allows you to auto test and apply necessary corrections in real time. However, please note that this auto calibration feature uses the compass and may be unreliable on older iPhone models (prior to iPhone 6S). In such cases, you can still input your own multiplier if you have conducted an independent calibration.

RPM has undergone extensive testing to ensure that it can help you adjust your turntable with an accuracy within 0.1% of its target RPM. However, this assumes that your turntable is adjustable and itself stable within that tolerance range.

In Version 3 of the app, we introduce The World RPM Turntable Performance Database. This allows users worldwide to submit their own turntable data and contribute to building the ultimate resource for researching the most accurate turntables available. To join and upload your own data, navigate to the Settings section of the app and ensure you have the Freeze time set correctly. Then, perform an RPM session as you normally would. At the end of the session, you will be prompted to name it and given the option to upload it to the World Database. Additionally, you can always upload sessions from your History at a later time.
